The last two days have been picture perfect. Yesterday we had a play date at our friends house. It was fun....and crazy to have six kids running around! They have a beautiful pool that my little fish were thrilled to jump in! Somehow my ditsy/crazy packing frenzy self failed to pack MY swimsuit....so Ella and Carter swam with the other two older kids and had a fantastic time. Of course, the day wouldn't be complete if Carter didn't give me at least one GOOD scare. While we were enjoying a picnic lunch in the front yard, Carter disappeared for what seemed like just a few moments and was determined he was going to go for a swim.by.him.SELF! In a pool that has no shallow end as far as he is concerned. He did have the wherewithall to at least put the "powerpack" swim device on. Dawn had removed the ladder that was required for entry...BUT Carter had found it and reattached it! YIKES! That kid will do anything to swim. :) Fun times for all. But it must not have worn them out too much because they were up at 5:40 this morning asking if we could go to MN. When I rolled my eyes open and said no, they both chimed in, "let's go to the lake!"
Being another perfect summer day and with no thesis hanging over my head (only a wee bit o' packing for our adventures to MN) we were off by 9 to enjoy a day at the lake. It was quintessential! It was very hard to leave, but I do have a few things to do before tomorrow evening.
Lots of fun memories were had...even a VERY sad one...Carter broke the tip off his beloved fishing pole (lots of tears and sadness...note to self...must by a new one).
With Carter, you never know what he will say, so it was totally adorable today when the following conversation took place:
I was standing in the water watching Carter and Christian play. Carter was swimming underwater which is his NEW thing. He pops up with eyes as big as inner tubes and exclaims, "Mom, I have company!"
Me:"What????"
Carter: "Yea MOM.....I've got company under here" pointing toward the water
Carter: slightly annoyed at my NOT understanding "the fish are down here keeping me company!"
With huge smiles on both our faces, I walk over and it IS true. He has a whole school of fish following him around. It is the same crowd the kids have trained to coming swimming when they here their little feet hit the dock. They basically hand feed the fish with bread. Christian is totally into it now and squeals with delight each time they flip out of the water to get the bread crumbs. So cute! Looking forward to lots of good memories in MN. Here we come Grandma and Grandpa!
